Required Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients you’ll need to make this easy recipe. You might not even need a trip to the grocery store to make easy air fryer steak bites!

  • Sirloin Steak – I like to use top sirloin steak, which is a lean cut. Yet feel free to use your steak of choice. Options include Ribeye, New York strip steak, or beef tenderloin.
  • Olive Oil – For moisture and cooking. You could use melted butter, vegetable oil or avocado oil if you choose.
  • Italian Seasoning – Herbs for flavour. Includes a combination of oregano, basil, thyme and rosemary – for convenience versus adding separately. You could use montreal steak seasoning if you wish.
  • Black Pepper – Adds flavour and some heat to the meat.
  • Kosher Salt – Helps to tenderize the meat. I like Kosher because it’s larger granules, yet you can use whatever type of salt you’d like.
  • Fresh Garlic – Because, garlic. You can use garlic powder if you’d like, yet I always love the fresh stuff if I am able.
  • Fresh Parsley – It gives that final flavour, a nice color pop, and some freshness.
  • Butter – this optional ingredient is based off preference. Some like to dip their steak bites in butter, some like to drizzle melted butter on them all when plated. Others are fine without. So it’s good to have on hand if the craving hits.

Recipe Tips

  • Cut steak into even sized bites: Make sure each piece of steak is cut into the same size, for even cooking. I recommend 1 inch cubes.
  • Preheat the air fryer: This is one recipe where you shouldn’t skip the preheating instruction. For best results, cook the steak in a preheated air fryer. You want that hot sear not only for the crispy outside, but the tender inside.
  • Don’t cook too much at once: Air fryers work because of hot air circulating around all sides of food. So make sure you cook one layer (an even layer), and there’s room for all pieces to cook evenly. You might need to cook in batches.
  • Mid-cook shake: I recommend giving the steak bites a quick toss in the basket mid-way thorough cooking.
This allows you to check on the cooking process, but to ensure all sides are being cooked evenly.
  • Allow the steak to rest: Just like a regular steak, great steak bites are better when they have had time to rest after cooking, to lock in the juices.
So once plated, leave then for 3-5 minutes. Hey, just enough time to get another batch of simple air fryer steak bites cooking!

How Long Do You Cook Air Fryer Steak Bites?

The perfect cooked steak is juicy and tender, yet not overcooked.

Yet we all have personal preference on the level of ‘done’ when it comes to steak. Personally I like medium doneness = 3 minutes cook time, give it a toss, then 3 more minutes cook time.

NOTE: exact cooking time depends on air fryer brand and size

If unsure, use a meat thermometer and check the internal tempertaure:

  • Steak is medium rare when it registers at 130 – 140°F
  • Steak is medium when it registers at 150°F
  • Steak is well done when it registers at 160°F.

Storage

Air Fryer steak bites leftovers should be stored in the fridge, in an airtight container. They will be good for up to 4 days.

Reheat steak bites leftovers in the air fryer, microwave, or in the oven.

Should I Marinate Steak Bites? The steak bites do marinate for a little while, as they wait for the air fryer to preheat. Yet you could allow the steak marinate for longer, especially if you want to prep the recipe in advance. Just be sure to store in the refrigerator until it’s time to cook.

Can I Make This Ahead of Time?

Yes! It’s a great recipe to prep in advance. Just marinate in the fridge until it’s time to cook. For best results, cook right before serving.

What Cut of Steak to Use?

Any is fine, depending on marbling preference. Tender cuts of steak is best such as sirloin, strip steaks like a NY strip, or ribeye steak.
