I’m talking about hours of outdoor play followed by quiet and intense devouring of cake – then sprinting out the door once again for more play.

The banana addition to this recipe most certainly helps to make this a moist cake with a rich chocolate flavor. Yet they also give it that unique taste and turns it into a decadent dessert. So super good!

You’ll need the following simple ingredients to make this easy chocolate banana cake recipe. The printable recipe card is below.

  • ripe bananas, mashed bananas
  • applesauce
  • granulated sugar
  • brown sugar
  • water
  • white vinegar
  • all purpose flour
  • baking soda
  • cocoa powder
  • salt
  • milk chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips

How to Make Chocolate Banana Cake

  1. Spray a 8×8 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, and preheat oven to 350.
  2. In a large bowl combine the mashed overripe bananas, applesauce, white sugar, brown sugar, water and vinegar. Mix until combined, yet don’t over-mix.
  3. Stir in the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, cocoa and the dash of salt). Mix the cake batter again until combined.
  4. Toss a hand full of chocolate chips into the batter and gently fold them in. Again, don’t over mix or else the batter will turn out dry.
  5. Pour batter into the dish and sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top of the cake. Bake for 35 mins or until toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool at room temperature before slicing into this easy recipe.
  6. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions:

This cake is great on its own as a dessert recipe or for a great snacking cake. For best results, I like to pair it with ice cream. The whole family will enjoy.

Storage:

  2. I was wondering about the vinegar, as I’ve never come across it in a banana cake before,can you tell me the purpose of this please?
