Ingredients to Make Chocolate Banana Cake

You’ll need the following simple ingredients to make this easy chocolate banana cake recipe. The printable recipe card is below.

  • ripe bananas, mashed bananas
  • applesauce
  • granulated sugar
  • brown sugar
  • water
  • white vinegar
  • all purpose flour
  • baking soda
  • cocoa powder
  • salt
  • milk chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips

How to Make Chocolate Banana Cake

Spray a 8×8 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, and preheat oven to 350.

In a large bowl combine the mashed overripe bananas, applesauce, white sugar, brown sugar, water and vinegar. Mix until combined, yet don’t over-mix.

Stir in the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, cocoa and the dash of salt). Mix the cake batter again until combined.

Toss a hand full of chocolate chips into the batter and gently fold them in. Again, don’t over mix or else the batter will turn out dry.

Pour batter into the dish and sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top of the cake. Bake for 35 mins or until toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool at room temperature before slicing into this easy recipe.

  2. I was wondering about the vinegar, as I’ve never come across it in a banana cake before,can you tell me the purpose of this please?
