While you could use shredded cooked chicken, my recipe calls for canned chunk chicken.

I had purchased many cans at Costco once, thinking it would come in handy for sandwich lunches. Turns out the kids aren’t a fan.

So I had so many tins of Kirkland canned chicken, and continually staring at them in the pantry was the inspiration for this recipe.

I used two cans for my recipe and it turned out perfect, and saved some time cooking chicken breasts.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • canned chunk chicken
  • hot sauce, I use Frank’s RedHot Buffalo
  • cream cheese
  • ranch dressing
  • shredded cheddar cheese (sometimes I use a cheddar and mozzarella cheese blend)
  • green onions for garnish, optional
  • Sides for Dipping
  • black pepper, if desired

What do you serve with Buffalo Chicken Dip?

I love to have a variety of options on hand for happy dippers:

  • Carrot Sticks
  • Celery Sticks
  • Ritz crackers
  • Tortilla Chips

I use franks redhot buffalo wing hot sauce, yet you can use your own preferred spicy buffalo sauce brand when making this delicious buffalo chicken dip.

I opted for the mild version of hot sauce, yet make spicy buffalo chicken dip if you wish.

If you do like that extra kick and have mild, increase the measurement to a full cup.

You can totally use cooked fresh chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken or shredded chicken breast for this recipe. Yet I love the ease of using canned.

To make: simply cook the 5 ingredients on the stove in a large pan over medium heat.

Then once cooked and bubbling hot, transfer it to an oven-safe dish and top with more shredded cheese.

Bake for 10 minutes just to get that topping nice and bubbly.

Top with chopped green onion for garnish, and done!

You don’t even need to transfer this to a large bowl, just serve in the small casserole dish that it’s baked in.

How to Make Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip?

Transforming this creamy dip recipe into a slow cooker dip is simple, just like my Slow Cooker Warm Mushroom Dip.

Some may love this recipe, for this reason alone.

To make crock pot Buffalo Chicken Dip, follow the recipe below.

Yet add the combined mixture to the crock pot, instead of the oven-safe dish.

Then, sprinkle cheese on top as you would when making in the oven, and slow cook for 3-4 hours or until the cheese topping is melted.

Personally, I’d use the slow cooker to make this recipe when entertaining or making it for a potluck.

You can keep the dip warm to hot, and ready to serve at all times. This way it prolongs becoming room temperature.

Are you Looking for a Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe without Cream Cheese?

If you’d like to not use cream cheese for your chicken dip, you can substitute it for 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise, and 1 cup plain Greek yogurt or 1 cup 14% Sour Cream.

Keep in mind if you opt for low-fat varieties in this recipe, to make a healthy buffalo chicken dip -your dip will not be as thick in texture as using full the full fat option.

How to Store Buffalo Dip:

Place in an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 5 days. We love to have leftovers for the next day, it makes the best snack.

You can reheat this right in the baking dish, in a microwave or in the oven.

Enjoy as dip the next time around or scoop into a fresh ben to make buffalo chicken sliders.

    1. I completely agree. I’ve had it both ways and I prefer it with a blue cheese I’ve also done it three quarters of a cup of blue cheese dressing and a quarter cup of ranch. I made this recipe but with fresh chicken instead of can and it was fantastic! Thank you so much!

      1. I don’t go by grams. Is it 2 tiny cans or 2 of the next size up? That size appears to be about a cup. I think.

        1. The tins I buy are larger than the standard small ones. I’d check the size of the cans you buy, and what grams they are.

  3. I add onion crunchies or freeze dried onions to the top just for some texture it’s amazing❤️

  4. I throw some blue cheese in mine for a kick. Your recipe and pics are droolishous

  5. Have you made it with shredded chicken and if so how much?
I have some rotisserie chicken left to use and my mouths watering with this recipe!

  6. This buffalo chicken dip looks utterly delicious! The combination of shredded chicken, cream cheese and buffalo sauce is a classic for a reason.

  7. If you have leftover dip take a can of Pillsbury Grands flaky honey butter biscuits, cut each one in half so you have 16 rounds. Flatten out the round so it’s a bit bigger, and put about a teaspoon of dip in the middle. Fold in half, crimp the edge and bake using can instructions until golden. Let them cool and eat. Taste great at room temp.
