  • Powdered Erythritol – You can always adjust your sweetener amounts to make an even sweeter sauce.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – I wouldn’t make this with regular vinegar personally, it gives it that nice zing.
  • Butter – This ingredient is totally optional in this bbq sauce recipe.

Where Do I Buy Liquid Smoke?

You can find liquid smoke at most grocers, with the condiments and spices. It looks like a small hot sauce jar.

Recipe Variations

  • You can replace powdered erythritol with any powdered keto-friendly sweetener or a granulated sweetener that dissolves.
  • Add more or less most of the ingredients to make a sweeter sauce, spicy sauce, more or less smoky sauce.

How to Make Sugar Free BBQ Sauce

STEP 1 – Take a small saucepan and add all the ingredients, except butter, if used. (so the tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, powdered erythritol, worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, mustard powder, and water. Mix and bring it to a boil over medium heat, stirring continuously.

STEP 2 – Reduce to low heat and simmer for 15 minutes until water evaporates and the sauce thickens. This will bold in flavours and reduce the tomato paste tartness. Once you have achieved the desired consistency, remove it from heat Taste and add extra salt or cayenne pepper (or black pepper), if needed.

Optional – When done, add 1 tbsp of butter, providing a glossy look to your sauce.
