Ingredients and Notes

Ingredients on a table to make Pineapple Fluff salad.
  • Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix – Make sure it’s instant pudding mix, the same one that’s in our Dream Whip Frosting Recipe. You can also another pudding mix flavor that pairs well with pineapple, such as cheesecake flavored pudding.
  • Crushed Pineapple – This canned pineapple offers a juicy, tangy foundation with plenty of natural sweetness. If you prefer less syrup, drain the juice slightly or substitute with fresh pineapple chunks for a fresher texture and flavor. For my pineapple fans, there’s also our Baked Hawaiian Chicken Recipe to try.
  • Shredded Coconut – It pair nicely with the pineapple in this fluff, and the contrasting texture from the marshmallows makes it a good add-in. But, if you can’t stand the taste of coconut, it can be omitted. If you love it, check out our No Bake Coconut Cheesecake Recipe.
  • Cool Whip – The whipped topping is essential for that signature fluffiness and creaminess. You can use store-bought whipped cream or make your own from heavy cream. For a lighter option, try a non-dairy whipped topping.

As always, the full ingredients and recipe is on the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

Tips for Success

  • Thaw the Cool Whip before using but make sure it’s still cold. Chilled whipped topping helps maintain the fluff’s texture and prevents it from becoming watery.
  • Fold the ingredients gently – For best results, use a gentle folding motion instead of stirring vigorously. This preserves the aeration and keeps the fluff light and fluffy.
  • Let it rest before serving – Allow the pineapple fluff to chill for at least an hour to let the flavors meld and the texture set beautifully. Resting also gives the marshmallows a chance to soften just enough without losing their delightful chewiness. Our No Bake Blackberry Pie needs that chilling time too.

Recipe Variations

  • Add Tropical Fruits: Incorporate diced mango, papaya, or banana for a tropical medley that enhances both flavor and color.
  • Adult Version: Add a splash of coconut or pineapple rum to the mix for a subtle boozy note that elevates the classic dessert. It makes this pineapple fluff dessert taste like pina colada fluff!
  • Layered Trifle: Layer pineapple fluff with graham cracker crumbs and whipped cream in a trifle dish for an impressive presentation and textural variety.
  • Flavor Booster – A sprinkle of fresh lemon, lemon zest or lime zest lifts the pineapple’s brightness and adds a refreshing zing that awakens the palate.
  • Honey Drizzle – A light drizzle of honey adds natural sweetness and a floral note that pairs beautifully with the pineapple’s tang.
