Our Fruit Cocktail Cake is another easy dump cake recipe. It’s been a much loved recipe for so many years.

What is a dump cake?

Dump cakes are similar to a cobbler, and are named after the process of how to make them. You literally dump the ingredients together, and bake.

This easy homemade dessert is great on its own or topped with ice cream or whipped cream.

While I love making this simple recipe with canned peaches, truthfully, you can use any canned fruit you’d like.

So this is a great peach dessert to make, even if it isn’t peach season.

Ingredients Required

These are the 4 simple ingredients needed to make easy peach cake and great recipe. As always, the printable recipe card is at the end of the post.

  • Canned Peaches – Use canned sliced peaches in syrup. Don’t drain the liquid out of the can. You can use the can of peaches that has light syrup if you’d like.
  • Box Cake Mix – I like to use white cake mix, vanilla cake mix or yellow cake mix for this recipe. Any brand will do.
  • Butter – You can either use butter cut into cubes, melted butter, or as I did – a semi-melted butter with a bit of both.
  • Cinnamon – Ground cinnamon adds a nice flavor and spice. Yet, it’s optional.

How to Make Peach Dump Cake

First, preheat the oven to 350°F. Also spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray, and it set aside.

  1. Dump the canned peaches and its liquid into the casserole dish.

  2. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the peaches (optional).

  3. Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over peaches.

  4. Pour the semi-melted butter evenly on top of the cake mix.

  5. Place baking pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is cooked and golden brown.

Note: Cooked dump cakes are supposed to have some parts that look more cooked than others.

How to Serve

This easy peach dump cake is best enjoyed while warm.

Yet some prefer to eat this cake when room temperature, and that is fine as well.

While optional, I recommend swerving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The warm cake contrasting the cold ice cream is wonderful.

You can also serve this cake with whipped cream instead of a scoop of ice cream. Better yet, try both!

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Technically you can use any canned fruit in syrup that you’d like.
  • Cover as much of the cake as possible with the butter. This is why it’s best to use butter that is semi-melted, entirely melted or cut into small slices.
  • You can add a crunch to the cake by adding in nuts to the top of the cake. Choices are almonds, pecans or walnuts.
  • If using fresh peaches or frozen peaches (instead of canned), you’ll need to add water to replace the juice or heavy syrup. The same goes for using any frozen or fresh fruit.

Storage

Store leftover peach dump cake in an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate. It will last for up to 4 days.

Can you Freeze Dump Cakes?

Yes, you can freeze this recipe. Make sure it’s in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.

Reheating Tips

For best results, reheat peach dump cake in the microwave in individual servings.

To reheat the entire easy peach cobbler with cake mix, use the oven at 325°F until warm. It should only take about 15-20 minutes.
