Bacon Cheddar Ranch Chicken Dip
Baked appetizer dips are wildly popular in this house, and not just for gatherings. I fully admit we make them for afternoon snacks, to even dinner. While family and friend gatherings isn’t in the cards this year, that doesn’t mean that appetizer dips are also a thing of the past.
We love appetizer nights, even if it’s just us digging in. They go so well with game and movie nights, to just relaxing and enjoying some great food. They will always be apart of our holiday tradition.
We often make Buffalo Chicken Dip, because it is simply amazing when it comes to taste. Yet we like to change up our favourites now and then with simple swaps that create a whole new taste. This warm dip recipe is fantastic on it’s own, yet it can easily be made into a Buffalo Crack Chicken Dip just be adding some buffalo sauce into the mixture. It gives this recipe that ‘kick’, for those that like that bold spicy taste.
This chicken dip recipe is sometimes referred to as Crack Chicken Dip for being so very addictive. It’s a tongue-in-cheek name for sure, yet I prefer to nickname this dip recipe as Fully Loaded Chicken Dip. Either way, this dip is as recognizable as it is irresistible and delicious.
How to Make Bacon Cheddar Ranch Chicken Dip
This dip is a mix and bake appetizer and is ready in 30 minutes, which could not be easier. You simply combine cream cheese, sour cream, cooked shredded chicken, ranch dressing mix, cooked crumbled bacon, green onion and cheddar cheese.
You can top with a bit of reserved cheese and bacon, then pop it into the oven. Once cooked, garnish if you want with some green onion and it’s ready to be enjoyed.
Since you could eat this dip for a meal, some might want to cut back the calories. If you prefer, you can use low fat cream cheese, light sour cream, light cheese and use turkey bacon. While I haven’t tried it with low calorie products, I’m sure it would still taste as great.
Can Shredded Chicken Dip Be Made Ahead of Time?
Absolutely! You can make this dip ahead of time and refrigerate until it’s time to bake. Yet keep in mind, the bake time might increase a couple of minutes. If you have leftovers, simply cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days, and re-heated to enjoy at a later time.
What to Serve with Warm Shredded Chicken Dip
We enjoy this dip with baguette slices, Tostito chips and even sliced vegetables. I like to have a variety on hand, so you can jump from one to the other. This way all tastes and preferences are covered.

- 5 oz. crean cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 package powdered ranch dressing mix
- 6 slices chopped cooked bacon
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cups cooked chopped chicken
- 3 chopped green onions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a 9x6 baking dish with cooking spray
- In a large bowl, stir together the cream cheese and sour cream until combined.
- Reserve 2 tbsp each of the cooked bacon and green onion.
- Combine all other ingredients into the large bowl with the cream cheese and sour cream. Mix well until combined.
- Pour into prepared baking dish, top with reserved bacon and bake for 20 minutes. It's done when it's hot and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and garnish with the remaining green onion.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
- You can make and refrigerate for later. Yet additional baking time might be required if the dish is cold.
