Ingredients Required

Here are the simple ingredients needed to make this quick appetizer recipe. The printable recipe card for this bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers recipe is at the end of the post.

  • Jalapeño Peppers – For best results find large, use fresh jalapeno peppers that are a generous size. Ideally big enough to have 3 bites. Smaller peppers will work, yet you’ll need to adjust the amount of slices of bacon.

  • Strips of Bacon – Use regular sliced bacon for this recipe. Thick cut bacon will need a bit more cooking time in order to crisp up. For best results, use smoked bacon for that smoky flavor.

  • Shredded Cheese – For the filling. Cheddar cheese gives that sharp bold taste, yet you can also use pepper jack cheese. Use a blend of cheeses if you prefer.

  • Cream Cheese – Use your preferred type (full fat or light cream cheese)

  • Garlic Powder, Salt and Black Pepper – The Spices for the filling.

  • Chives – Fresh chives (fresh green onion) not only gives it some colour and a nice touch, it adds to the flavor.

  • Honey and Melted Butter – This glaze for the bacon helps to crisp nicely, and also adds a touch of sweetness to the recipe.

TIP: To make this recipe low-carb or keto, use a liquid keto-friendly sweetener instead of honey.

How to Make This Recipe

First you’ll want to preheat the oven to 350F and prepare a baking tray with parchment paper. Set it aside.

  1. Slice the jalapeños in halves, longwise, and remove their seeds. The seeds is what makes jalapenos really spicy.

Place them hole upwards, in the prepared baking tray.

  2. Mix softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and chopped green onions in a medium bowl.

  3. Fill each jalapeno half with the cream cheese mixture to the surface, without exceeding.

  4. Then, wrap each of the jalapeno halves with a slice of bacon. For best results, make sure the seam is underneath, between the jalapeno and the cookie sheet.

FAQs about This Recipe

Jalapenos do have spice to them, yet this is highly variable with the seeds. Since the seeds holds most of the spice, removing the seeds makes jalapenos tolerable for most people.

Some people rinse seedless jalapenos under cold water, to take this one step further.

As well, the cream cheese and sweet honey balances the spice very well in this recipe.

Yes, most definitely! This is actually one excellent great make-ahead option. Prepped yet uncooked jalapeno poppers can be made a day in advance. Simply store them well in plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to bake.

Yes, you can. To make Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers, preheat the air fryer to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the poppers in a single layer with room all around for air to circulate. You will need to cook them in batches, as they will not all fit as they do when oven baking.

Cook for 11-12 minutes. Air fryer jalapeño poppers are done when the bacon is crispy.

Yes you can, and it’s great for having a snack handy when the craving hits.

To do so, allow them to freeze on a baking sheet in a single layer. When frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe bag or airtight contianer for up to 3 months.

As needed, take some out and place them directly on a baking sheet. There is no need to thaw them first, though add on an additional 10-15 minutes baking time.

Storage

To Store – Place leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

To Reheat – You can microwave them, if you don’t mind that the bacon won’t be crispy. You could also re-bake or air fry until they are heated through and the tops have crisped up again.
