6 Tips to Organize Your Kitchen

There are few things more frustrating than not being able to find something in the kitchen when you need it. When this happens, it’s time to Organize Your Kitchen!

The hub of the home gets a lot of traffic – and is a magnet for chaos. An organized kitchen will be very important to getting things done and being efficient with your time there. This falls into my firm belief that everything has a home, for a reason. Plus, there’s the beauty of how an organized kitchen looks!

6 Tips to Organize Your Kitchen

Here are 6 Tips to Organize Your Kitchen:

  1. Keep your cabinets clutter-free. This may sound easier said than done but if you designate a space for everything and then be sure to always put things back in their space, it will help. You can also buy plastic bins or baskets for organizing things inside your cabinets and it will help you to make the most of the space and keep it organized. You can buy wire shelving if you have tall cabinets and want to be able to get more things in the space provided.
  2. Clean your fridge once a week. Designate a day, preferably before you go shopping for groceries. You can throw out any old food or leftovers that were not eaten, wipe down the shelves and other parts, and also be sure everything is organized. When you organize your fridge just like you do your cabinets, you’ll also be able to see what you have at all times and you will know when you need to buy new things. You should also check the expiration dates on bottles of condiments and sauces.
  3. Section your kitchen into “zones”. A typical kitchen centers around the cooktop, refrigerator, and sink. Around these, you’re also going to need prep space. For example, you need space for washing, drying, or prepping dishes to go into the dishwasher. You’re also going to need space for preparing meals, or prepping things to cook. Think about your kitchen in these work zones and it will help you organize the space in your kitchen with practicality in mind. You should also store any appliances that don’t get used every day under the cabinets instead of on the countertop where they take up valuable space in your “zones”.
  4. Place everyday items where they make the most sense with how you use them. Drinking glasses can go in a cabinet closest to the fridge, pots and pans near the stove for cooking, etc. If you have an infamous “junk drawer”, it doesn’t have to take up the prime space in your kitchen. Put it off in a harder to reach or farther away drawer.

With these tips, you’re ready to get your kitchen in order. Whether you are setting up a new kitchen or overhauling your existing one, these tips will help you make it the best for you and your needs. If you live with others, just make sure they stick with the plan and don’t mess up all of your organizational efforts.

  1. I’ve seen the zones idea quite a lot. I try to put things where I use them as much as possible – pans near the stove etc… Smart ideas for sure

  2. I need to get reorganizing some cupboards and get rid of things that i just don’t use or need.

  3. I have recently moved houses and my kitchen is far from organized. Everything is in disarray and I cannot find most of the stuff to make a meal without running around the kitchen. I’m in the process of organizing it and want to be finished before the holidays so I can make a Christmas dinner without losing my mind. I had the work zones in my old kitchen and will set the new one up the same.
