4 Ways to Organize Your Pantry

On the heels on my tips to keep an organized home, I’d like to focus on one area of the home that oftentimes needs help. Tackle that oftentimes messy part of every home – organize your pantry!

Many of us dream of having a huge walk-in pantry but most of us don’t have that luxury. No matter how big or small your pantry, you’re still going to want to keep it organized so that you can find the things you need when you need them.

An organized pantry also helps you see what things you might be out of before you go to the grocery store to pick up more, and reduces the chance that some things are in there too long.

Everyone has varying opinions about the best way to organize your pantry, so keep this in mind. However, the best way is the way that works for you and your personal needs.

There are some ideas you can take from others who have been there before, and from experts in organization, but in general, it’s about making it work for you.

4 Ways to Organize Your Pantry

4 ways to organize your pantry:

  1. Create separate zones for different types of foods. You can create different zones for snack foods, dinner prep, general food storage {like your canned goods}, and more. You can use labels to sort the zones and the different types of foods so that you always know what goes where. This will also help other people in the house keep the organization you have created.
  2. Group foods by type. Another option is to group all foods by type. You could put all soups together, all veggies together, all breads together, etc. Some people like this option better and it allows them to always find what they need in a pinch.
  3. Maximize your space. This is especially helpful in a smaller pantry. You can maximize your space by adding under-shelf baskets. You can hang snacks, bread, or other items here in these baskets. You can also hang wire baskets or racks to the back of the door, getting even more space out of your pantry. You can use stair step shelves for smaller cans, spices and other items. All of these space-saving ideas will help you get more into your pantry and in a way that you can see it and find it when you need it.
  4. Use baskets and bins to make the most of deep shelves. Then, you can store things that don’t get used as often in the back and when you need it, just pull out the bin in front to access it. Then you won’t have to move all the things that are in the bin or basket just to get to what’s in the back.

If you take a little time to properly organize your pantry, you’ll always be able to find what you need when you need it, it will look great, and it helps keep your food fresh and used on time so you save money as well.

  1. I am always redoing mine because everyone rips things out and leaves things all over, the baskets on the door is a good idea however mine has glass on the door so a bummer for me, I put large appliances on thtop shelf that are not used on a daily basis, at least that stays the same!

  2. My pantry could use some organization. I have bins, but no one else but seems to use them. lol
