Margherita Panini
Sandwiches can get SO boring, as we all know. This Margherita Panini Sandwich is truly amazing and different than the usual lunch.
Margherita Panini Sandwich
Do you always make the same old sandwiches at home? Ya, me too. But, I’m working on changing that. The new school year is coming up and I don’t want to be in a sandwich rut after a few short weeks. Margherita Panini Sandwich
So, I’m expanding my sandwich repertoire now!
When thinking of what kind of sandwich to feature this week – I looked to my favourite pizza. Margherita! I love the combination of tomato, mozza cheese and basil – drooling just thinking of it. Side note, the best slice of Margherita pizza I ever had was in Manhattan. To.die.for!

{ok, back on topic}
Thing is, to expand your own recipe box, you only need to think of your favourites and find a way to alter them to make them new {but not so different and out of the ordinary that you might not make it again}.
In this case, my fave pizza turned sandwich – Margherita Panini!

This recipe just calls for a few ingredients, I actually only needed to shop for the fresh basil. Please don’t skimp out and use the dried stuff or even leave it out altogether, the fresh basil is key here guys!

Margherita Panini
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread or panini bread
- 1-2 slices mozzarella cheese
- 2 or 3 fresh tomato slices
- 2 or 3 fresh basil leaves
- 2-3 tsp . olive oil
Instructions
- Heat your skillet or panini press on medium heat and drizzle olive oil in pan. When using a press, brush the oil on the plates after it’s heated and just before you place the panini on the plates. You could also brush a bit right on the outside pieces bread itself.
- Place the bread in the pan or onto the plate and then add the cheese, basil, tomato and then top with last slice of bread.
- Cook for about 5 minutes or until your sandwich is browned to preference. If using a pan, flip half-way to cook the other side.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
It’s 7 am and I am drooling…drooling. I am definitely trying these!
This is one I will have to try, love all the ingredients
This looks so yummy.
looks great. Don’t usually stock mozzarella in but could get a few slices to try this along with the basil from my garden (it the gopher hasn’t eaten it all again)
Looks yummy, will have to try it!
This came along at the right time! I have basil growing on our deck. And I love paninis. I think they take a regular sandwich to the next level. Thanks so much for sharing. This will be even better when my tomatoes are ripe.
I saw this recipe and got inspired to break out my Panini press again.
This sounds AMAZING! I’ll have to try this recipe. I like how simple it is in the ingredient department! Thanks for sharing.
