Ahhh Summer. We’ve been waiting a long time for you, my friend.
The weather here in Alberta has primarily been very hot and we’ve been spending a lot of our time outdoors. While we wait for our new deck to be built, the majority of our play is in the front yard.
Chalks, bikes, bug collecting and a lot of the girls’ favourite activity for Summer 2013 – a Lemonade Stand.
Yet our front yard doesn’t get the shade like our backyard would, so it’s super hot with little relief.
So, a lemonade stand is the perfect excuse to have fun and cool down {one for you, one for me}. Yet, let’s take that classic yet plain drink and kick it up a notch!

Minute Maid has some new and delicious beverage recipes, all incredibly easy yet packed with major taste.
While I will try them all this Summer, the one that had to be first was Watermelon Grapefruit Fizz.
Yet, our grocery store was sold out of the Minute Maid Grapefruit frozen concentrate. I stood in the freezer section pondering my next move, and scanned the TONS of other varieties available. Change of plans!

Keeping my daughters favourite Summer activity in mind, I decided the Pink Lemonade flavour would be great with Watermelon as well, so into my cart it went.
OK, along with a few more flavours too, how could I resist the great price of .60 a can?!
I made what I call Pink Lemonade & Watermelon Fizz, a spin on Minute Maid’s Fizz recipe.

This drink could not be easier to make, it takes literally minutes just as the can says. All you need to do is puree watermelon, mix it with Minute Maid juice and combine a glass with Sprite. Garnish with fresh basil if you wish – and done!
The taste can be described as ‘the epitome of Summer’. Close your eyes and you taste what you have been waiting for, heaven in a glass.
On scorching days, it’s much needed. Also, our Lemonade stand offers what others don’t, as my kids scream while standing on the sidewalk, ‘best lemonade in town!!!!”. I agree!

Yum! I’ve gotta jump on this before watermelon season comes to a close. Perfect for these 90 degree days! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Loved the sound of this recipe, but thought it might be too sweet for my hubby, so I cut the Sprite in half and used some soda water for the rest of the fizz — result was delicious and refreshing.
The key here, which many people miss, is making impurity free ice with minimal smell or taste from the freezezr
I love drinking ‘real’ ice tea in the summer. I pile the ice on and flavour with lemon…no sugar! it isn’t fun dieting in summer but this makes it a little more interesting.
