You’ll need the following simple ingredients to make this easy peppermint fudge recipe. As always, the full recipe is on the printable recipe card at the end of the post.
How to Make White Chocolate Peppermint Fudge
It might look like a lot of steps, yet I go into detail so that it’ll be an easy recipe to follow, especially for beginners.
- Line an 8 inch square baking dish with parchment paper. Leave some paper hanging over the edges to help you remove the fudge later on.
- Fill a small saucepan with a couple of inches of water and bring to the boil then turn down to simmer on medium heat.
- Put the condensed milk, chocolate chips and butter into a heatproof bowl then place it on top of the saucepan. Make sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water.
- Leave the ingredients to melt, stirring occasionally with a rubber spatula. Do not to allow the mixture to overheat otherwise the chocolate might seize.
- Once melted, remove from the heat. Pour in the peppermint extract and mix to combine.
- Tip the fudge mixture into the prepared pan. Use the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer. The mixture will be very thick. Do your best to smooth it into an even layer in the pan. It doesn’t matter if it’s not perfectly flat.
- Scatter the crushed candy canes on top of the fudge.
- Put the pan into the fridge for a couple of hours so the fudge can set.
- Once set, remove from the fridge. Use the parchment paper to lift the fudge out of the pan.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the candy cane fudge into one inch squares.
- Serve and enjoy
How to Store Fudge
Store fudge in an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator where it will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks.
If kept at room temperature, it will only last about 5-7 days and can melt.
Can you freeze fudge?
Yes! Fudge can be frozen for 2-3 months. Use a freezer safe storage bag or freeze safe storage container, and store cut pieces with parchment paper in between them so they don’t freeze together.
This makes it much easier to take out some pieces to thaw when the craving hits. It’s also handy for having some on hand when unexpected company is coming over.
