Great Moments in Parenting
Parenting never comes easy, we all know that. Even the simplest of things, like cooking, can really make you feel like such a terrible parent. Case and point, me vs the BBQ. For years I have tried to master the art of grilling, and sadly, I feel like I’m getting no-where. But I try. And try again.
This weekend I attempted to grill hamburgers. Sounds simple right? Nope, I ended up with 2 burnt patties and 2 which broke into pieces causing a ton of smoke on the grill. I actually set off our smake alarm IN the house while BBQing outdoors. *sigh*
I brought in the not so pleasant looking remains and, considered the alternative of last minute delivery. I’m not sure if Isabelle saw the defeated look on my face or if she heard me swearing like a sailor at the BBQ, but she did something that almost brought me to tears.
She made herself a ‘so-called hamburger’, and took a bite,
“Mom, you are the best cook in the whole world. Thank’s for cooking for us“.
Bless her sweet heart, the burgers were terrible! But, her kindness turned that mom-fail into a very proud moment. It’s true that the simple and unexpected times do make the greatest moments in the journey called parenting.
I love this girl to pieces!

Aww what a sweetheart.
so sweet, she is adorable, looks like a mini you!
Thanks Jennifer!
Wow!
And she really does look just like you!
Thanks Lindsay, more and more each day it seems!
That’s awesome. What a compassionate young lady you’re raising!
Thanks so much, it’s a great quality to have, I sure hope she always keeps kindness first!
aww, i love it!
She sounds like a fabulous young lady.
Much better then the usual ‘Ewwwwww!!!’ that I hear from the twins!
MUCH better!
😉
I am impressed you continue to try – I’m certain I am going to blow the house up so totally leave it to Brent.
Isabelle is clearly a pretty special little girl – this just melts my heart.
Using it is a little scary for me, especially when it’s windy. In the summer I crave BBQ, so I have to try, even with all the fails. Maybe one day….? Maybe not.
Thanks for your kind words, she sure is a keeper!
🙂
I really should just learn how to do it – though I’m certain I’d be able to write this exact post afterwards. Perhaps we should do a bbq workshop {and hold it at the fire department lol}
Yes please! I actually was wondering if there was a cooking class specifically for grilling. If so, SIGN me up for a year! lol
Awwww 🙂 That is so sweet! You have yourself an amazing little girl!
Aw, what a sweetheart! And such a gorgeous girl too!
What a sweatheart! You have obviously instilled some good values!
Aw, how sweet is she? What a gorgeous photo too – you’re a great mom Tammi, it’s all about the effort you put in 🙂
Thank you so much!!!
*sniff*
What a sweetie pie. (She is beautiful too!) Sounds like she already knows the right things to say to make a mom feel better. You are brave, I have still not tried to grill on my own, I am afraid of the open flame in there but can cook on a gas stove or even a man made bbq – something about that contraption just scares me.
Amen!!! I see we drink the same Kool Aid, nikki!
I’m terrified of BBQ’s, it’s probably funny for my neighbors to watch me light it. I run away after!! ha!
🙂
What a great story. It’s like our kids “just Know” when we need an extra dose of love or cuteness
Yes!! Likewise though, they sure know the buttons to push, don’t they?! lol
Thanks for commenting Kalle, have a great week!
That is so sweet! What a great girl you have
(But I have to say I did laugh at you setting off your smoke alarm … sorry! 🙂 )
Oh I know, I can’t even say it without a smile on my face. Really?! WHO does that….. ummm, besides me?!
😛
Sorry about your bbq mishap…I am ashamed to admit that I actually giggled about the smoke alarm…couldn’t help it. I am the same with it so I leave it to my husband. 🙂 & Oh my goodness I am a bit wimp…you had me in tears again…only a mother would know how much a comment like that would melt your heart! It reminds me so much of my youngest as he is so sweet like that too. Last week I was sick as a dog and looked like I just climbed out from under a rock. He looked at me and told me that I was beautiful! Coming from anyone else, I would see that as a sarcastic remark, but he really meant it. Nothing better than sweet little children that make life wonderful. Thanks for sharing such a lovely story, well, not the part about the bbq incident of course 🙂
Jeanette – that is simply beautiful! You know, it makes us realize that they say things like that so much, and we don’t *really* notice, but when we really need that compliment at a particular time, we suddenly notice. At least with my kids, that’s the way.
Even other things like suddenly I realized that one of my twins was rubbing the back of my hand. She must have been doing it for a long time, but when I did actually SEE what she was doing {memorizing every line}, it made me realize that I did that with my Mom – she had the softest hands….
Kids are remarkable, aren’t they?!
What a sweet girl 🙂
I took hate cooking on the BBQ
Awww…. How adorable 🙂
BTW, I would never even touch the BBQ – you are very brave, lol
Aw, what a sweet, sweet thoughtful little girl you’ve got there! 🙂
What a sweetheart.
Such a sweetie!
After reading this post, let me say that you and hubby are doing a super wonderful job with Isabelle. Rather than tell you how terrible the burgers were she chose to make you feel better…great kid!
Thanks Deb!
Out of the mouth of babes! Your daughter is adorable.
I make the burgers (when I have a chance to do homemade) but I don’t cook them..I leave it to the expert – my hubby!
Very cute 🙂 I wish my kiddos enjoyed what I made for dinner. My oldest prefers her hamburgers without the burger — just ketchup on a bun 🙂 My youngest prefers her food directly off the floor.
I am the exact same way with BBQing – it ends up with me swearing & food burnt beyond recognition pretty much every time! I’ve also done the “OMG I’ve completely wrecked dinner & I have nothing else to serve that’s quick so I guess we’re ordering pizza tonight” meal – I think my daughters secretly love that I am so lame at BBQing! 😀
What an angel! That’s what I love about children: unconditional love.
A sweetheart! A very well written tidbit into the joys of parenting.
Awwww!! This is SO sweet 🙂
Awww…sweet! You have such a kind and very pretty daughter! Congratulations! 🙂
Very pretty picture. 🙂
That was so sweet! I did that to sausages, I forgot about them and they were so cooked when I tried to take them off bbq the broke into ashes lol.
What a sweetie! You’ve certainly raised her to be compassionate!
Awe what a cutie, kids are so amazing and special. love this!!
So sweet, and a great picture!
Amazing! Thx for that
What a beautiful soul your child has! she is so kind and loving you definitely did a great job at parenting when you have a girl like that ! Who care about the bbq, we can not master everything in life some defeats are choosing our battles knowing what we can change and what we cannot is what it’s all about! bake your burgers instead on a drip pan makes very tasty burgers.
Too sweet. Clearly you’re doing a fabulous job with your kids!
Congrats on raising a wonderful young woman!
Nice story. Very pretty girl!
This brought a smile to my face…….its funny how our kiddies have just the right thing to say to us during our not so shiny moments lol
Join the club that feels that you are always measuring up to some invisible standard! We usually do the best we can at the time but are much more critical of our own perceived errors than we are with others. Your daughter has a beautiful soul as well as a beautiful face-a wonderful combination!
I was able to parent quite well..but now she is 15 ……help
You have good reason to love this child ‘to peices.’ She has a very kind heart and obviously loves her ‘Mom’ to pieces as well. We all have had days like that. Hugs.
Isn’t it wonderful when our children surprise with their kindness and compassion? We usually expect our children to be kind and compassionate but, when they actually are, we feel so surprised and pleased at their actions. No doubt, they have had good examples of you, your husband and extended family. And she does look like you.
What a sweetheart! Try and try again, mom!
aww sweet girl! She looks just like you:)
Not only is she a sweetheart, but a beautiful young lady.
Marilyn
That is so sweet…. It’s nice when our kids recognize the love behind what we do….
