This apple cobbler with cake mix will transform a regular box of cake mix into your next secret family recipe. 2 kinds of apples and a cozy mix of spices get layered under a smooth cake batter that bakes up nice and fluffy for a dessert that only took about 10 minutes to prep.
⅓cupunsalted buttergrated + extra for buttering the dish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F and butter a 9x13 casserole dish well.
In a large bowl, combine the chopped apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, and salt. Stir until well coated.
Add ¼ cup of the cake mix and mix well before adding the apple mixture in an even layer to the buttered casserole dish.
In another large bowl, combine the remaining cake mix with the buttermilk and grated butter, mixing until well incorporated.
Use two spoons to drop dollops of the batter over the apples. You want to make sure there are gaps between dollops of the batter so steam can easily escape from the apple pie filling. Don’t worry, it will spread to cover the apples while it bakes.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbly. Let sit for 5-10 minutes before scooping and serving.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.
