How to Tell Your Kids ‘You’re Going to Disneyland!’

My family and I just got back from a magical adventure aboard the Disney Wonder which included a trip to Disneyland. One of the first things hubby and I wondered after getting that jaw-dropping invite was, “How do we tell the kids?”.

After all, I’m not the type of person to casually break news like this over breakfast cereal. I like to do things big, especially for something this big, just like when we told the kids they were going to Walt Disney World in April. Fact is, the Disney excitement starts right at planning and continues long after you come home, so I wanted a really memorable way to tell the girls.

So, we waited and thought about it … and thought some more. Months passed and we still couldn’t come up with the plan.

And then the PERFECT opportunity arrose.

A couple weeks before this trip, I went to LA for the #DisneyInHomeBloggers event, which included spending a day at Disneyland, sans kids. Part of the event was watching Secret of the Wings, a new Tinker Bell movie {available on Blu-ray on Oct 23rd, 2012}. As well, I got to be one of the first people to meet the newest frost fairy, Tinker Bell’s twin sister, in person.

And there’s the opportunity we had been waiting for!

Tinker Bell and Periwinkle heard about our upcoming family trip and were more than happy to record a video for my own twins plus one, announcing the news that they were going to Disneyland.

How perfect was that timing, the girls went WILD after watching!

I have been chomping at the bit to share this video yet I was sworn to secrecy until Periwinkle’s ‘official’ release to the public. I’m now able to share and am happy to say that she is now doing meet and greets with Tink at Disneyland Park. And yes, my girls did get to see them!

So, how did my girls’ visit go with these two fairies who have captured their hearts completely? I’ll tell you all about it very soon, there’s much to tell about our latest Disney adventure!

Until then: always believe in faith, trust and pixie dust!

  1. 😀 That is so adorable! Love that Tink and Periwinkle were able to give the good news to the kids.

  2. Omg, how special is this!! Your girls will remember this about you and the effort you made for the rest of their lives, this will be one special memory:) Very creative and shows the love you have for your children.

    1. Thanks Doris, that was my plan. So happy THE fairies helped with this video, meant the world to my girls!

  3. That’s so cool! I already have a plan in place in case we make it to Disney. It involves a scavenger hunt and fun clues. 🙂

    1. Great idea Julia! We toyed with that idea, but thought it would work best when the twins were older. Maybe next year! 😉

  4. What a great keepsake, wow!
I can’t wait to see the new movie, always been such a huge Tinker Bell fan!

    1. Me too Rachel, it was adorable to see the fairies with my kids at Disneyland, they were so playful just like in the movie. Love it!

  5. That is absolutely incredible! The girls must have been sooo excited. You are super mom!

  6. This is so fun! I remember telling the kids last summer our plans to go to Disney. They were jumping up and down as we were waiting to be seated in a restaurant.

  7. Hi every one, here every person is sharing such familiarity,
thus it’s fastidious to read this weblog, and I used to pay a visit this webpage everyday.

  8. Awesome! We surprised them with a game of hangman .. with where and who they would be seeing .. it was not until they were there that they actually caught onthat we actually told them where we were going.
