Show your Pet some Love this Valentine’s Day

Reasons to take your Pet to the Vet for a Check-up

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’re all thinking about what we can do to make our family and loved ones feel special and appreciated.

One thing is certain, no matter whether you’re a dog person or a cat person: your furry friend is a part of the family. This year, add your pet to your list of Valentines and show them that you love them with a visit to the vet.

According to experts, there are at least five good reasons to take your pet to the vet for a regular check-up:

1. Prevention is better than reaction: Just like a human, animals need check-ups to ensure they remain healthy. This way you can stop many illnesses long before they become a problem. Remember that dog and cat years happen a lot faster than human years, so it’s wise to go to the vet at least once a year.

2. It doesn’t need to be costly: By purchasing a pet insurance policy, you protect yourself and your four-legged pal from the very high cost of an emergency. Pet insurance providers like Petsecure offer a range of policies at different price points so there is something to suit every budget. And as an added bonus, insurance can help reduce the costs of your regular vet check-ups.

3. Fend off unwanted visitors: Internal and external parasites and heartworms can prove very dangerous for your pet, but preventing these is easy. Talk to your vet about medications that can help.

4. Keep the pounds off: Maintaining a healthy body weight can go a long way towards overall pet health. Vets can provide valuable nutritional advice so that you can ensure your pet gets an optimal diet.

5. Healthy smiles: The majority of cats and dogs will experience dental problems in their lifetimes and, given how much they rely on their mouths, it’s important to properly maintain their teeth. This goes for day-to-day care, but a dental examination is part of every veterinary exam.

Like any other family member, you want to keep your pet safe, happy and healthy, so this Valentine’s Day show Fido some love with a visit to the vet. More information is available at www.petsecure.com.

  1. We always take our dogs for their yearly check ups. It’s better to catch something soon when you can treat it than to wait until your pet is visibly ill.

  2. We have two cats and a dog, and we always take them in for their yearly visits. Animals are so stoic, if you don’t take them in for their physicals, you could miss something that’s brewing.

  3. We don’t have a pet, but we may get one soon. We’ll definitely be sure to take them to the vet. I think that we’ll also end up pampering it a lot too!

  4. We have two cats and it is almost time for their check up. What a great way to show your pet you love them.

  5. This is a great post for those with pets. I have two cats of my own. They always go in for check ups when needed. I want to make sure they’re kept healthy just like the rest of my family. Pets have always been family to me.

  6. Your pets health is so important! Keep up the advocating for pets, and btw that dog is BEAUTIFUL!

  7. The dog and the (human) kids always get to the doc on time. Keeping up to date and ahead of any issues is such an important thing!

  8. Our chocolate lab is a huge part of the family! Thanks for reminding me to show him a little extra love this Valentines day!

  9. I should look into one of those pet insurance policies. Vet bills can get very expensive if your pet is really sick. The Pratt’s Pets by us sometimes has free clinic days.

  10. Thank you for this. We don’t have any pets yet so this is really useful for me because we do plan to get a doggie. Great to get advice from other pet owners.

  11. I take both my dogs for their yearly exams. Can be costly but definitely worth it for my furry babies 🙂

  12. We just recently lost our cat to Kidney Disease, our third now. Early detection is the key to a longer life for them, have their blood work done yearly for this and other diseases like Diabetes. With proper food and vet care, she lived a longer and happier life than she would have otherwise.

  13. Great tips to follow! I have cats and it’s always something, insurance is a must.
