Managing Summer Chaos with Kids

My kids have been counting down to the last day of school and while kids long for the freedom of summer, it doesn’t quite bring about the same feelings for parents. A lot of us aren’t used to having the kids home all day long, especially adjusting to tasks like juggling household chores with little ones under foot. I’ve grown quite accustomed to my lunch dates with friends and grocery shopping solo!

Needless to say, just the thought of it is overwhelming and can easily lead to a chaotic couple of months.

Disclosure: I was compensated for this post, all opinions are my own.

  1. My big thing with the boys during the summer is getting them outside to play… And also getting them exploring nature.

  2. getting them to spend time outside playing, riding their bikes playing with friends, swimming

  3. I agree with all these suggestions! Last summer, we mostly went without screen time and their behavior was better and they enjoyed themselves more! Although there is nothing wrong with enjoying a movie together, I don’t want them in front of a screen day in and day out!

  4. Getting my kids to go outside was like pulling their hair, but once they were out it was all good!!

  5. I always find it harder to get them to go to bed.Because they don’t have school and the days are longer
they like to think they can stay up until midnight if I let them.

  6. Its harder to get them to bed in the summer because its stays light out until 9-930. Witch means they sleep late into the morning . But after a few weeks of getting them up and out it all works out .

  7. Thanks for the tips! I am dreading the endless “I’m bored” that will be coming in the coming weeks!! I think routine will have with this for sure!! And the chores of course!! lol

  8. Keep the little one’s as busy as possible and don’t panic at the mess….expect things to go wrong and kidlets to cry……..they’ll only remember the good times!

  9. we’ll try to take advantage of every beautiful day this summer and also not overdo ourselves. while going out if great, we want to find some cost efficient ways for having fun! also, i want him to stay healthy by eating lots of fresh fruit and not eat ice cream all day!

  10. Keeping kids occupied during the summer break is quite a task. I think the most important thing is to ensure that they have fun and get a lot of exercise. Go for picnics, even if it’s only in the garden, kids adore not eating at the table. 🙂

  11. when the grandkids are over hubby and I keep their time full of activities and we even schedule in some time for refreshments
