Twin Jealousy is Causing Her Teeth to Fall Out. Maybe.

It was our last day in Turks and Caicos when my little twinlin Sophia came running up to me, “Mom! My tooth is loose, my tooth is loose!

Ahhh, what a milestone!

A first twin tooth, loose, in Turks and Caicos. There’s one for the baby book … er, if I ever work on them, that is. I’m a total failure in that department, but that’s another story.

Of course with the wiggling of Sophias tooth, twin competition had to show up.

Then, ALL of Katie’s teeth were loose {no they aren’t}.

There’s been many eye-rolls from Katie at the mention of Sophias loose tooth so I can’t imagine what she’ll say and do when Sophia gets money and she doesn’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t start pulling and tugging on her own teeth to jumpstart the process.

Katie does need to accept it, but still, it’s both funny and heartbreaking to actually watch twin jealousy. Don’t even think of complimenting one without the other or you many be uninvited to a birthday this year, they even do that with each other. So many theatrics, I tell ya!

In any case, it took 2 weeks to actually fall out {truth, her teacher finally pulled it}.

And, tada! I have a toothless twinlin!!

So, what’s the going rate for teeth these days? Do you give more for the first?

  1. My goodness, been a long time since we had a first lost tooth, but at that time it was only a $1.00. Guess she would like what Robin mentioned. Thanks for stopping by to link, have a great week!!

  2. I think my kids got $1 per tooth. I remember scrambling to find some cash when I was caught off guard with lost teeth too. lol

  3. My son was 4 when he lost his first tooth, and I thought money wouldn’t mean much to him at that age. So we gave him a small toy for his first 2 teeth. Of course, we were stuck doing that for our two other kids since my son told them the Tooth Fairy brings toys at first, lol! All other teeth landed them 2$ because we have 2$ coins here in Canada, so that was easiest. Sometimes it would just be a dollar if that’s all the TF had in her pocket 😉

    1. Yep, toonies! 😉
My oldest was the same, had no idea. My twins are almost 6 now, so they kind of know. Darn! lol

  4. That’s funny and sounds like a lot of drama too. Hopefully they will grow out of being jealous of each other. Even if they are twins, they are two different individuals and I hope they are happy with that fact. Enjoy them while you can! My son goes off to college next year. 🙂

    1. Oh yes, very happy, they are two completely different girls. Yet, with previous experience with only 1, there was no competition. With twins, or after more than one child, I think you really notice the competing for attention.

  5. I remember when a toonie was a big deal and people would brag about it (that was also when the toonie first came out).

  6. Grand-daughter lost a tooth a couple of weekend ago while visiting,i believe she had collected $7.25 from under her pillow and the tooth !!! Seems grandpa forgot to take the tooth.Next night she just got just .50 but he took the tooth this time !!!

    1. Awe, that is adorable!! i remember being little and my Dad emptying his change in his pocket for me, I was so happy and remember that so well. The little things like a handful of change … 🙂

  7. Aw, too cute! We haven’t reached that stage with my kids yet, but they’re only 2 years apart so I imagine there will be some jealousy there, too! My son will be so proud to be the WINNER of losing the first tooth, haha. I’ve heard people give more for the 1st, but I have no idea what the rate is these days! A different amount every time… because when a tooth falls out, you never know what change/cash you’ll happen to have on hand!

    1. Ha, exactly! And you hope you have some one hand! You said that right though, Sophia thinks she won something. Which is why that just pisses Katie off! lol Ahhh, kids!

  8. My sisters are identical twins and they had natural competition but also an almost supernatural unity. Twinship is an amazing thing.

  9. I love the missing teeth smile. I give my son a $1 a tooth. My toddler is mad when the tooth fairy doesn’t come for her yet. I think she really will rip out her own teeth soon!

    1. Haha! I tell Katie she’s lucky cause she’s still my baby and I’d like to keep it that way for a little longer. I don’t think I’m convincing her though 😉

    1. Many are saying 5 for the first and really, it doesn’t buy a whole lot right? Don’t get me started about ‘when I was young ….” lol

  10. How fun! I’m sure her twin will start losing teeth soon enough. Have a great day!

  11. Aww such a great moment! My girls are not a full 2 years a part so the oldest has already lost several teeth and the youngest is getting a bit anxious on when hers will start to loosen up…LOL

  12. OK, so I do think we still have a bit of time before we get into this. But probably would go with 5 for the first letting them know that that is just for the first and that they should not expect the same for the rest LOL…

    Have a great day!

  13. My youngest didn’t start to lose hers till the end of grade two. First tooth tooth fairy brought 5 dollars the rest they got a loonie

    1. Awe, my girls will be going into Grade 1 in the Fall but some of their friends started losing teeth well over a year ago, even more

    1. I’m waiting for the day when they start snooping and see a bag of teeth… how creepy!! Already wondering what we are to do with all these teeth!?

  14. That’s a great question, I have no idea about the going rate for teeth. What fun raising twins! I’ve never thought about all the emotional complications having twins would bring. The jealousy between 1st and 2nd child is enough for me right now!

    1. Yep, something I didn’t know about either. Then, as babies they’d fight over the TV remote … a huge learning experience that throws me off a lot but it’s the most fascinating relationship I’ve ever seen. I love all my girls!

  15. Ah, to be young and waiting for the tooth fairy to visit (and leave some treasure) again!
Congratulations to your beautiful daughter on her first lost tooth 🙂

  16. Oh my goodness! How funny. The rivalry of siblings and twins! My son just lost his first tooth. Daddy… er, tooth fairy gave him $5!

  17. Isaak has his top and bottom teeth that are aligned both out. He looks cute, and like a hobo at the same time.

That’s sweet that all of Katie’s teeth are loose. 😉 She’ll have her glory soon I’m sure.

I read from a blog about putting glitter glue on a dollar. It looks like fairy dust. I did that with Isaak’s last tooth and Mica said, “The tooth fairy never did that for me!” So this last time I dropped quarters in Isaak’s box. So much for trying something new and special.

    1. That is such a sweet idea, I’ll have to try that. I like making it as fun as possible! I have to agree with you on that, kids smiles with a mouth full of baby teeth are so cute, then they fall out and these huge odd sized adult teeth grow into their little heads … I find it kinda funny looking. Here’s to hoping for good growth this time! lol

  18. Losing your first tooth is definitely an exciting time so I bet your daughter is really thrilled to get a visit from the Tooth Fairy 🙂 When I lost my first tooth I got a silver dollar and a pearl necklace-The Tooth Fairy was pretty generous. Lol

  19. It’s been so long since we went through lost teeth! I think inflation has even gotten to the tooth fairy now. 😉

  20. Our going rate is $1 unless my husband is doing it and scrounging for cash since I forgot. We didn’t give more for the first tooth.

  21. Wow, what a great experience… Little Man had to have his first two teeth pulled because his new teeth were growing in behind them. We gave him $1 per tooth 🙂

  22. I polled the parents at M’s daycare when his first tooth was loose. The kids talk you know, and it wouldn’t do to have one get more than another. $5 for the first and $2 for each after that. But then he lost his second tooth when we were at Disney, so in addition to 2 US dollar bills, he got 2 Disney trading pins as well, since it was a special Disney tooth 🙂

  23. I have to wait a bit longer for this. Tooth fairy will hopefully not visit us soon.

Mu husband has a twin and he said that this is the case with them as well before but they outgrew the competition and true enough they are so different to each other nowadays =)

  24. Hari OM
…and there I was believing all that stuff about twins being forever in harmony!! Don’t envy you this one. YAM xx

  25. I always give $5.00 for the first, $2.00 for every tooth there after.

This for me was one of the biggest signs my babies were growing up faster then I like.

  26. I think I would give more for the first and then a steady, but lower price for every tooth after it.

  27. The tooth fairy gives $2 for the first tooth and $1 thereafter. My kids do the same thing about complimenting one and not the other. If I tell my son I’m proud of him, my daughter asks if I am proud of her. Every time.
    Enjoy your Wednesday!

  28. Your girls are beautiful and you don’t have to have twins to have jealously-just two or more girls! Anyhow, /they will probably be the best of friends later, if now now. We have twin grandchildren (boy and Girl) and they are the best of friends Hugs/

  29. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually
something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very
broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
