Dyson DC 45 Digital Slim Animal
As a reviewer, I’m often asked certain questions from house guests and friends. One of the repeat offending questions is “Do you have any favorite brands, ones that you prefer time and again?“. And yes, I certainly do. If you are a regular reader, you’ll notice that I tend to talk about my favorite topics and brands aften, referencing the use multiple times.
Case and point? Dyson.
I really didn’t think a brand could win me over as much as Dyson, yet it happened that very first day I tested one out. I decided to vacuum a room of my house with my {then} current brand and then immediately afterward gave the area another go with Dyson. It picked up an entire canister full on what I thought was ‘clean’ carpet, and that convinced me right then and there, 100%.
I was thrilled when the Dyson DC 45 Digital Slim Animal arrived, it’s the newest addition to the Dyson family.
First and foremost, it will not replace my upright {full sized} Dyson, and I never thought I’d use nor have need for both in my home, yet I do. You see, the biggest feature of the Dyson DC 45 Digital Slim Animal is that it’s cordless {rechargeable}. It has a 22.2V nickel manganese cobalt battery pack, which releases the charge evenly so there is no drop in performance.
The entire unit is so compact and convenient, it’s like my little buddy around the house. It’s actually quite liberating to not have to drag a cord around with me. I don’t think twice about grabbing it for a quick-clean instead of looking at a small mess and thinking that I’ll just get it with the next swoop of the full-size. Yep, I just admitted to it.
Just like the very popular ‘dust busting’ product of many years ago, the DC 45 has the same benefits {except with, like, a bazillion more power}. Used for the home or car, I find it’s best to use when I only need a small job done. Like spilled dry cereal, annoying specs on the stairs, evidence of an afternoon of baking left on just the kitchen rug…. you know, the small things you should clean when holiday company comes over. Ahem.
Yet, just because I said ‘small job’, don’t think it’s a small-worker. It’s an Animal for a reason, taking on all types of floors and with all the Dyson power that millions have come to know well and love. If you have pets, this Animal is for you! Of course all this power and feist comes thanks to Dyson’s patented Root Cyclone™ technology, it spins dust and dirt out of the air using centrifugal force, with no loss of suction.
The Dyson DC 45 Digital Slim Animal is so versatile, with a detachable long-reach wand, so you don’t have to bend to the floor. Or use the wand to reach high spaces like vents and fans. Then, take off the wand when in smaller spaces like in the car and snap any of the attachments right onto the motor unit.
The motorized head attachment is used most often in this house, and it has that same swivel action that I adore with other models. So, just as much ‘spunk’ as my upright, but just a *few* pounds less to it.
It comes with a mini motorized tool to get further into carpets and fabrics, getting out all that pet hair and dirt from upholstery and confined spaces. As well, I also got a combination tool that has long soft bristles {perfect for dusting} and a long crevice tool which is so great for tight spaces like getting in between couch cushions as I’ve learned.
You empty the canister of the DC 45 just as easily and conveniently as other Dyson models, with a push button trap door and drop right into the garbage {I smile each time I use it, who needs messy bags anyway?}. And, like always it was so easy to put together as well.
When it comes time to charge {after ~20 minutes of use on constant suction, or 8 minutes on Boost mode for tougher cleans}, plug it in and wait until the indicator says ‘go’ again.
Since it’s so compact, storage is a dream. Right now I have mine propped up against the filing cabinet in the office yet no one notices it’s even there. Yet, another wonderful feature about this model is that it also comes with a wall-mount to hang up and out of the way. Since our office re-model isn’t quite completed {almost there!}, I haven’t yet mounted the DC45. Already though, I see this so awesome in the bootroom, back door, and in small broom closets. In fact, due to the small space it takes to store, this is the ideal choice for apartment dwellers.
Shall I explain why my daughter is in ALL of these photos? Well, as I was using the Dyson DC 45 Digital Slim Animal, I decided it was time to take some photos for this post, yet couldn’t get the right position with both camera and the digital slim in hand. So, I called my 8 year old to use it while took some product shots.

This girl now rocks 80% of the vacuuming in this house, running for the DC45 at every chance she gets. I think sometimes she purposely makes a mess, just for the excuse to use it. So, as a really nice result, my daughter jumps at the chance to use it. Sometimes it feels like like some kid stole my toy though!

About a year ago, I finally broke down and bought one. Let me tell you, it is well worth the price. Every year I had to replace a cheap vacuum because they stopped working.

I love that this works so well, and charges so quickly…that is an absolute must in a house with kids and pets… I need something that I can grab and go with very quickly, and takes minimal time to find it…lol.. My full size dyson is a dream, but I hate to lug it out for a piece of toast that shed a few crumbs…
