Day in the Park with Fred Penner
This past Sunday we took in one of our city’s Summer activities and spent a day in the park with Canadian Children’s music performer –Fred Penner!
Whoa! Flashback, right?
I can still see my 80’s self with the record {yes!}, and watching Fred Penner’s Place with uninteruppted interest. Nostalgia, aplenty!
The grass hill was packed, kids rushed the stage yet the smile on my face was about all the adults in the crowd. It was the hundreds of us, who grew up with Fred Penner, who swayed, sang and danced the most.
There was much hilarity between Fred and his assistant on bass and backup guitar, Paul O’Neil. Together they rocked songs like ‘Sandwiches’ and ‘The Cat Came Back’ like it was 1986.
Oh, and the kids had a blast too. They knew most of the songs from school, and I tried to tell them that THIS is where they came from. THIS IS IT. My girls didn’t entirely understand and most likely thought my uber-excitement over it all was a little crazy.
Yet, I could see from the looks in all the other parents’ faces – we all were the same. Like a bunch of kids again! It was a great Sunday, spent! Thanks Mr. Penner!

Really cute post and nice pictures, it sure looked fun for the children.
Aw, that did look like fun!!
It certainly was Paula, so happy we decided to take in this Summer event!
That looked like great fun and smiles all around too heheh!
Have a parktastic week 😉
What a flashback, indeed! I definitely grew up rocking out to Fred Penner – how cool that he STILL performs! 🙂
Looks like a great day.. hah who had more fun watching Fred though – the kids or you? 😉
I would have had no idea, maybe he does often?! We ALL had a great time, yet I think I’m the only one still humming ‘the cat came back’ for.days. Hanging onto the feeling of being a kid!
🙂
How fun!
A very happy set of photos.
Wow now there is a familiar name, we love that guy
He has the hearts of many Canadians, thats for sure. What a lovely man, may he always keep that spirit and energy alive for kids everywhere!
🙂
He came to the town next to my hometown when I was little. He came into the crowd and talked to me, it was my first celebrity experience.
What I remember most from the experience? His breath…
Oh no!! Bwaaaa, almost spit out my coffee there!
🙂
What a great post. A lovely bit of memories and great shots to support it. I remember Fred Penner too. Loved his songs. So much fun and jocularity! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Shelly, now a bit of my past and the present with my own family is captured. Memories!
🙂
I’m not sure who that is, but the girls do seem to be enjoying the show!
Looks like a great time! Love the pics!
Thanks April, it was a fabulous afternoon!
I love Fred Penner – what a classic kids performer!
Exactly! So happy we had the chance to see him on stage, love that he’s still doing shows!
Looks like they had a great time! I’m going to have ‘The Cat Came Back’ stuck in my head all day now 😉
It’s been stuck in my head for days… it just won’t stay away… lol
🙂
Outdoor family concerts are always the best.

They are, right? Helps that is was a gorgeous day too!
🙂
Definitely a flashback from my childhood!! Looks like the girls enjoyed it, great pics!
You need one of those from time to time, don’t you think?!
🙂
Looks like you had a lot of fun!
We sure did! Hope there’s more outdoor shows to be seen this Summer!
It is fun to go somewhere that they whole family can enjoy!
I’ve been wanting to go to They Might Be Giants. I started listening to them in high school. Now my kids love their albums.
That would be fun!! I used to listen to them in HS too!
🙂
Actually it might have been in his father in-law now that I think about it. That still counts!
Sounds and looks like a very fun day!!
fun fact: i used to live next door to his dad!
NO WAY!!!
The drummer from Whitesnake lives down the block from me and Jamie Sale lived next door when I was a kid … and that’s all I got!
🙂
Actually … Jamie Sale’s Mom saved my Mom’s live when I was in Grade 6. I should tell that story one day…
I love programs like that! You were lucky. Thanks for linking up!!!
Last minute idea, so glad we went!
How fun! Is he the Canadian version of Raffi? I was a huge Raffi fan growing up, ha ha ha!
I guess you could say that!
🙂
Oh I love Fred Penner! How fun!
A name so many would recognize immediately!
🙂
What a sweet event! I didn’t grow up in Canada, but it looks like good memories.
Very good memories!
🙂
my girls loved Fred Penner
Many did and for great reason. His energy is fantastic!
Oh my gosh that is so awesome! I would love for my daughter to be able to see Fred Penner. I used to watch him all the time on TV when I was little! 🙂
Check his site, he might do tons of shows still!
🙂
It looks like a blast! I don’t know who Fred Penner is, but I’m definitely going to look into him now — it’s always nice to introduce new music to my classroom!
Oh, the CD’s are a must!
Looks like your girls had a lot of fun!
We all did – it was a pretty fabulous day!
Omigosh! When I was little I loved Fred Penner! Looks like so much fun. That would have been awesome to meet him. Lucky you:)
Awww! That is SO cool!!! I LOVE Fred Penner! I grew up listening to his songs and watching his show on TV! Makes me nostalgic and reminds me of my granddad who passed away. My brothers and I used to go to my grandparents’ after school when we were kids and we’d watch the Fred Penner Show!
Your girls are ADORABLE! I cannot believe how fast they’re growing! When I first started reading your blog, they were teeny tiny little tots!!!
Thanks for sharing a dear memory Christine! So sweet!
And thank you, it’s crazy to look back at my old posts and compare. So happy I have this record of their lives!
What fun! I saw Fred Penner as a child; it would be great to take my own kids to see him!
🙂
I didn’t know he was still playing! Looks like a blast!
I didn’t either Olivia, what a welcome surprise!
Great shots! And it’s totally COOL to be excited about the 80’s!!
Totally dude!
🙂
Love the song “the cat came back!” lol I remember that well. Looks like the girls had a blast!
Again, still stuck in my head! lol
Looks like everyone had a blast!
We did Ellen, it was such a wonderful afternoon.
Oh my gosh, that would have been absolutely AWESOME!!!
Very cool! Looks like a lot of fun for you and your family!
That does look like fun. I love the pony tails 🙂
I’m trying to decide if I want to go see him today. The Harrison Festival of the Arts is always a crazy busy time but I loved Fred Penner’s show as a kid so I might brave the crowds and traffic and go. Not that my kids know who he is but…
We ended up spending the day in the park with in walking distance of our house with Bobs and Lolo
Lovely pictures of the girls (and parents) having such a fun time. Fred Penner is a wonderful role model for children and parents! It looks like the weather was perfect for this!
Agree!
That does look like a fun day out in the park. 🙂
I linked up the wrong link at #79 (because I’m a DINGO), the next entry #80, is the correct one. Sorry!!!
How wonderful! This was my brothers favourite show, but I loved how he crawled through that log and got to that secret hideaway.
Ahhh, memories!
Looks like they had fun
TONS!!
🙂
You never outgrow Fred Penner 🙂
I really don’t think you do either!
Boy, this brings back memories. I took my kids to see Fred Penner at Massey Hall years ago. (My youngest is 31! yikes, where did the years go?) Listened to his records all day long on their little Fisher Price record player….
Great times, love those precious memories! Thanks for sharing them Elizabeth!
I’ve never heard of him (And I’m an 80s kid?!?). Glad you all enjoyed the show!
This may be a good product for weight loss but there are many negative
feedbacks annd comments about this product.
One of the great things about hoodia is the lack of
negative side effects. After a period of time many people stop losing weight and start to get their appetite back but when
this happens they can simply move onto Extreme.
