Fun Fact: In 1916, Keds created the ‘original canvas sneaker’, named for the silent rubber soles on our shoes {superb for sneaking up!}.

Here’s another no-so fun fact: I personally haven’t worn Keds for many, many years. Though as a kid I walked, ran and probably slept in them. So, what changed? Certainly my own preference for comfort and casual hasn’t … really, what’s up with that?

In any case, I was offered the chance at a pick of any Keds shoe, so I could get aquainted with new styles, new looks – kinda like having coffee with an old and dear friend. So what does this Mom do? Choose a pair for my kids! Doh!

Sitting here now, browsing the styles and lusting after literally a dozen pair, I’m a sad Tammi.

Good news though, I’ve passed a little piece of history and ‘iconicism’ {I’m declaring that a word} onto my own kids. They are sporting one of the best pair of shoes I think they’ve ever had.

Flexible, oh yes. Adorable? To the max. With the bow and the graphics and sequins – it’s the
Hello Kitty Mimmy H&L pair.

Yet, for my pre-schoolers, there’s nothing better than the ease that these shoes go on and off, while still fitting entirely around the foot. After trying these out as indoor shoes I couldn’t help but to *really* examine their current pairs, which I purchased at a box store in late Summer. One has a Velcro strap with a narrow opening and they still cannot get them on independently. The other is so stiff that even after 2 months, the twins can’t lift the tongue up enough themselves, to get their foot in without frustration.

These glorious Keds? No problems at all, since day 1.

At $45 a pair some might think that’s pushing it, yet read my example above again and see that I easily wasted approx. $50 right there. After having this pair of Keds for my twins and testing the look, wear, comfort and function on it’s own and in comparison to their other shoes – there’s no contest. Keds wins hands down.

Pardon me while I have a flashback to my own childhood, knowing now the reason why I had always worn this brand!

In any case, these shoes are the best, seriously. But, yada, yada – I’m still a pouty pants for not thinking of myself for once {Mama has to do that from time to time!}. Which is why I’ve bookmarked the site for my own next casual shoe purchase.

US shoppers, you have to check out the ongoing Keds Sales {whoa!}, Free Shipping and discount codes nicely advertised in the site masthead {love it when they make shopping so easy!}.

For myself in Canada, I’ll have to use the Keds Store Locator to find a retailer near me, as they don’t ship to Canada from the site {this needs to be changed please!}. My closest retailer is about 1 hr away and that’s most likely the reason why I don’t have a dozen pairs like I used to … road trip anyone?

Even though Keds offers boots, slip-ons and more, maybe a pair of Original Champions will be my choice, so I can re-live my youth again!

Speaking of, singer-songwriter and style icon Taylor Swift is now part of Keds Family! She’s the new brand ambassador, combining her role with her favorite elements of great style – classic and effortless.

This partnership was kicked off with the release of limited edition red Champions to commemorate the release of Swift’s new album, RED. Hot and in huge demand, these shoes keep selling out everywhere, yet I hear there will be some available on December 10th. So, if on your holiday list you’ve got a Taylor Swift fan and/or someone that loves casual shoes – think Keds.
