When I order wings in restaurants, one variety I usually go for either Buffalo style and Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings, or Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings. You just can’t beat that spicy flavour.

How do you Cook Chicken Wings in the Oven?

As you will see from the recipe, I bake using oil and spice if you wish. Then once cooked, I choose my favour and start baking again.

I rarely fry chicken wings, as I love how they turn out cooking in the oven, and saves on fat and calories.

I simply place wings on a parchment lined baking sheet for ease.

Some recipes say to place them on a foil tray over a baking sheet to allow the fat to drip. I’ve seldom seen enough fat drippings to worry about it.

Plus, I just hate cleaning those racks so I don’t bother.

How to make Crispy Chicken Wings

Don’t be fooled by the oven-baking, these wings turn out so very CRISPY! Most tend to think you have to deep fry wings in order to crisp them up, yet that’s not true.

The secret to getting them so crispy in the oven is to bake, sauce, broil, sauce and broil. Simple and tasty!

Plus you get a crisp buffalo coating plus saucy on the outside that will leave you licking your fingers.

Of course Buffalo Chicken Wings are a hit as an appetizer for any gatherings such as game day.

Yet I love to cook them as a meal main dish, with lots of veggies to go with them. They also make the best leftovers!

How to make Buffalo Sauce

While there are plenty of recipes out there to make homemade buffalo sauce, I prefer to simplify things a bit and use Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce and some melted butter {which also helps them crisp up}.

I usually have some of this sauce in the fridge, so when making this recipe I very seldom need to take a trip to the store for ingredients.

Again I bake the chicken wings until cooked, sauce them up and broil for a couple minutes. Sauce them again and broil the other side. This makes them crispy and delicious.

Sometimes I go light on the buffalo sauce if the kids will be enjoying them with me, then have a side of more dip for myself.

This way you can provide mild to those that prefer and also more spicy buffalo chicken wings for others.

What to Serve with Buffalo Wings

Serve your buffalo wings with blue cheese dip, as that was the original and most popular dip for this variety.

Yet I have found that regular ranch dipping sauce will do in a pinch.

Don’t forget the celery and/or carrot sticks on the side, they make a well-rounded meal and also are great for dipping as well.

Sometimes when serving chicken wings as a main dish, I also accompany them with a side salad along with the veggies. I have more tips on what to serve with buffalo chicken in general.

Just a word of warning though, once you start making your own buffalo chicken wings at home, You might turn your nose up at some types served in restaurants.

It’s not a bad thing, but it’ll sure make you admire how simple these are in getting that perfect chicken wing!

Enjoy!

  1. The layer on layer of sauce with the baking is the secret! I’ve done this with home-made honey garlic wings that I baked. They turned out amazing and a bit on the sticky side, just how I like them. My husband is a fan of the Buffalo Wings flavour – I’ll take your tips and test them out for him.
